Dennis Soberl

soberl@email.unc.edu

Biography

My professional life began as a high school history teacher. I left the profession after a few years to pursue other interests and spent a number of years in the business world. Eventually, my passion for working with students returned, stronger than ever. At that point, I left the business arena and went into higher education, starting out in college admissions, where I eventually became a Director of Admissions. After nine years in Admissions, the opportunity came to move into Academic Advising. I spent ten years advising students at the University of Pittsburgh, College of Business Administration. After many years of long, cold, gray winters, my wife and I decided to move to a warmer climate. We moved here at the end of 2010 after I was hired by UNC. I have truly enjoyed working with the students here and look forward to meeting many more of you. I am also the co-chair of the Transfer Advising Committee. Helping transfer students is a strong interest of mine. Outside of work, I enjoy golfing, reading non fiction books, photography, and the beach. I remain an avid Steeler and Penguin fan! I also spent time as a Civil War re-enactor (for the North!)
