BiographyMelissa grew up in the mountains of western North Carolina in Candler. She attended the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, where she earned a B.A. in Interpersonal and Organizational Communication Studies. Having grown up a Duke fan, her Carolina pride is hard-earned, but she has officially converted and is a true Tar Heel now. She began her work with Academic Advising as a Student Services Assistant, moving on to serve as the Assistant to the Associate Dean of Advising before settling into her current position as a full-time academic advisor in January 2010. Melissa began studying classical piano at the age of six and has played professionally throughout her life, although she mostly plays for enjoyment now. She remains involved in the local and state Junior Miss/Distinguished Young Women Programs, and is a former local representative. She also enjoys painting, being outdoors, and spending time at home in the mountains with her family. Having been through the Carolina undergraduate experience herself, Melissa is committed to her students and their success, and appreciates each student’s individual journey as they grow and develop academically and personally throughout their time at Carolina.
