In Person: Appointment or Drop-ins
Advisors are available for appointments and drop-in meetings. For general questions and urgent situations, call the main advising office.
- Schedule an appointment for detailed or complex topics such as registration planning, lifting advisor holds, declaring majors, etc.
- Check the drop-in queue to see how busy we are.
Summer Drop-in Hours
Mon – Fri: 2:00pm – 3:30pm, Steele Building only, beginning the Monday following May commencement and ending the Friday before the first week of fall classes
Fall/Spring Semester Drop-In Hours
Mon – Thurs: 1:30pm – 4:00pm
Friday: 10am – Noon
Mon – Thurs: 4pm – 6:30pm
Friday: 10am – Noon

You may contact advisors with specific inquiries via email if needed. To receive the best service, email only one advisor at a time and be sure to include your PID and legal name. Email responses may be delayed during busy times such as registration periods and the first week of classes.

Schedule a skype appointment with advisors through the online scheduling system. For these kinds of appointments, be sure to use a wired internet connection (not wireless) and send the advisor a contact request before your scheduled meeting time.
Call the Academic Advising Program office to speak with a staff member regarding general questions and urgent situations Monday – Friday 8:00am – 5:00pm (except University Holidays). Main number: (919) 966-5116.
Call your advisor using the number provided in our directory with specific questions. Keep in mind that advisors are often busy meeting with students during the day, so you will likely need to leave a voicemail. Be sure to include your name, PID, and phone number when leaving a voicemail.
Phone appointments are available through the online scheduling system. If your advisor does not answer, it is best to leave a voicemail as they may be wrapping up a previous appointment. If you still cannot get in contact, call the Academic Advising Program office and a staff member will assist.”
Use the chat service to ask general questions about academic policies and procedures. Advisors are available on chat Monday through Friday from 4:00pm to 5:00pm and Wednesdays from 10:00am to 11:00am except for University Holidays. Chat is not secure, so we cannot provide personalized advising based on your student records over chat.
Advising Peers are a great way to get help from fellow UNC students. Meet with them by asking for an Advising Peer when you come to drop-ins. Peers can help give you a general student perspective, and they can help explain resources and policies on campus.
